Top Five Game Show Announcers of All Time
« on: May 13, 2007, 07:57:15 PM »
Whom would you list as the top five game show annoucers off all time? My picks:

1) Johnny Olson
2) Gene Wood
3) Jay Stewart
4) Rod Roddy
5) Johnny Gilbert

My honorable mentions would go to Charlie O'Donnell, Charlie Tuna, Harvey from Double Dare, Bob Hilton, Shadoe Stevens and Burton Richardson.

I felt Rich Fields hasn't been around long enough to be on my list (Forgive me, Steph!   ), but given time he'll be on it someday.

What are your picks?

This is tough, there are a ton of great announcers to choose from, but narrowing it down to the top 5..

1.  Johnny Olson:  His enthusiasm in all of his shows and great voice make him the all-time greatest announcer in my opinion.

2.  Jay Stewart:  His versatility shown on Let's Make a Deal with Monty Hall was awesome (re: zonk skits).  Also, he had the greatest voice of any game show announcer (in my opinion).

3.  Gene Wood:  Announced on many shows, but of course best known for Family Feud.  His interaction with Richard Dawson was great on the original Feud.

4.  Rod Roddy:  Considering the man he replaced on Price, Rod did one heck of a job and really created a niche for himself.  He had the most unique voice of any announcer and could really work up an audience.

5.  Kenny Williams:  He was perfect on Hollywood Squares, and also funny to see on the rare Storybook Squares in his costume.

Jay Stewart:  Great interaction on LMaD.  And, IMO, was 1000 times more enthusiastic than when Charlie Tuna took over on Scrabble in 1986 and when Don Morrow took over SoTC in 1988.

Johnny Olson: Mr. TPiR announcer/MG 70's announcer.  Very enthusiastic.

Rood Roddy:  Had the same enthusiasm as Olson did, and I loved the infamouse line "If you would like to be a contestant on Hit Man, FORGET IT!"

Gene Wood: Mr.  "Let's start the FAMILY FEUD!"

Johnny Gilbert.

1. Johnny Olson-'nuff said
2. Rod Roddy-I first heard him announce on WHEW! when I was 8, I've been a fan ever since.
3. Gene Wood-Nice combination of friendliness and excitement in his voice.
4. John Harlan-another voice that could create energy.
5. Rich Fields-he's the leader of a new generation.
