Nice perfect half, but sadly, the opposite was the case for the second half (complete with the rare back-to-back Big Wheel shorty or whatever you call it).  She nearly came close to not getting it all the way around 3 times in a row (wonder what the record is).

Looks like Lucky $even was setup to be lost at the end, but great playing and common sense prevented that from happening.


The more I see the Shell Game set the better it is, IMO.  I'm perfectly fine with the red chips (or the staff sticking to those)

I just noticed looking back on today's Shell playing an aesthetic change was made: all last season they displayed the logo on the middle turntable screen only. Now they show it 9n the center left AND the center right screens. Odd change, but I guess I'll get used to it.

Swap Meet is a great game, but man does it need a refurbishing. It screams “early nineties.” I think it’s the next game that needs to be spruced up, because looking at it today made me think Shop Til You Drop was coming on next.

Maybe! Swap Meet premiered in the 20th season in the fall of 1991! I think the only change that the game had was that the price tags were originally loose (not attached to the stands)!

I was just thinking the other day... what games from the 20th century have never received an update that need one? A lot of the games that haven't yet been redone are either so thematic you can't really update the sets in any significant way without ruining the game's appeal (eg Cliff Hangers, Safe Crackers, Spelling Bee, Freeze Frame), or still look pretty fine even after all these years (eg Switcheroo, One Away, Cover Up, Switch?). Swap Meet has reached the point where its datedness is at least charmingly retro. A new look wouldn't be unwelcome, though it's honestly far less necessary than, say, Now... or Then getting a colour scheme that works with its lights or Shopping Spree getting a look that doesn't scream "1980s novelty mall food court" or 5 Price Tags or Race Game getting updated so they don't look like they were made on a shoestring budget nearly five decades ago. Like, sure, definitely high up the list for revamps, but there are quite a few games ahead of it that are far more necessary, you know?

I probably ought to start a topic about potential set upgrades (unless someone else does or plans to start one), but I don't know how one would update Race Game & Five Price Tags without it looking like the staff was updating them just for the sake of updating them.  TBH, I sorta hope they don't, especially the latter since I'd love to see it get to 2023 without a major update after just over half a century.  Same with Race Game (except we got to get to 2025 or whenever).

That being said, pretty much every update the show has done over the past decade has been worth it.  So if & when they update them, I might miss the old set, but chances are that I'd totally welcome it.  I agree re: Cliff Hangers & Spelling Bee; IDK how it could happen + it wouldn't be necessary at all.

Sure. Swap Meet's only real issue - but it's a big one, comparatively speaking - is that it's a pastel blue set that gets put against a pastel blue backdrop, so it feels washed out.

Five Price Tags doesn't really need *that* much of an update, maybe just a new colour scheme and putting the game's name on the prop (see also: One Wrong Price). Race Game... again, it's the blue and green on blue and green that's the issue mostly, but even aside from that I'd be surprised if they hadn't at least considered switching the number display for an LED monitor or redesigning the tag holders for Covid purposes to prevent the models from having to touch them.

Cliff Hangers... like, it's such a good set that the international versions of the game as seen in that pinned thread in The Talk is Right are pretty much universally disappointing. The only one that even comes close to its appeal is the 90s/00s Australian set, and it's basically a carbon copy, with the only real changes being the mountain is more snowy to suit the Alpine yodelling better and the climber has a St. Bernard following him to look over the cliff when he falls. Anything that could be done to the game would have to only be superficial at best, and... again, why bother when it's already perfect?

Exactly.  Cliff Hangers' current prop could be thrown in my house, and it wouldn't be out of place unlike most pricing games.  It's amazing how great it's looked from how the entire set looked back in the day to now.  Several game props wouldn't get away with that.  I can't see Pick A Pair from the 80s fitting in today's set.  Maybe it could, but it would be "too loud" IMO.  Moreover, they've changed the mountain climber so, like Bonus Game, it's a change.  Just a minor one.

Great point on Swap.  I have to check to see how often it's played on average, but that could factor into why no one's done anything about it

I mean, honestly, all you'd really need to do is, like, paint the blue bits a bright but deep purple. It'd still fit in with the rest of the colour scheme and the retro motif but it would allow the pink bits to stand out even more. Plus there's decades of psychological research that colours invoke emotional reactions (it's why, for example, car and lipstick manufacturers both use red to convey the notion of sexiness), and purple is typically associated with royalty and elegance, which would help with the game's other main failing in that prizes which are mostly fine yet unspectacular wind up feeling cheap.
