Punch-a-Bunch and Card Game. Holy s**t. Speaking of the latter, is that the closest Card Game difference of all time?

This is my pick for best episode of the season thus far.

Brief trivia question: excluding the obvious wipeouts, when was the last time a contestant failed to get the second digit right on Cover Up?

It tied the current Drew era record for closest to the range in a Card playing , $5
For Cover , the last time someone lost the game without getting the 2nd number in non-wipeout playings was last year , 3/29/2022 ( only got 1st number right )

For me it's a toss between this episode and the Thanksgiving one for the best episode of the season.  I'd probably answer with either one depending on when you asked.

Pleasant surprise following slight optimism that Punch would be won.  Just a feeling.  It's been a long time.  The highest outcome in terms of a win, I believe.

Card game was amazing for sure, but regardless of the outcomes, these specials have been fantastic so far during the 2023-2024 season!

That $50,000 win in Punch-a-Bunch was something else, that and the close win in Card Game with only $5 to spare. Is that $25,743 difference the record for largest difference in a win, other than the few who have bid $1 and won by virtue of their opponent going over?

Well, what a way to start a show, the first in a while that I watched without PVR'ing it. First thing that happens was a $50,000 Punch win. And when you have $2,500 on the first one with that distribution, you gotta go on. I think that's the first time I saw a top prize win on live TV when it was more than $10K in the post-Roger era.

I was right to expect the truck price to end in 0 in Cover Up. I guess they would be nice in prime time after all. Too bad Soni didn't go for the obvious at the end.

I would've gone over in Card Game by less than $2,000 (though I don't know how much less).

That's not the only time I went over, as I did that with the Mustang Showcase by only $975. :-x

Is that $25,743 difference the record for largest difference in a win, other than the few who have bid $1 and won by virtue of their opponent going over?

MDS #10 with Bob had Patricia win with a $38,969 difference...and her opponent didn't even go over! (Debra was off by $44,430.)

Cover Up was interesting in that it was basically set up for Soni to get another chance by missing the second number. I don't believe most people would think it was a $37k truck. With a 0 ending, I do think they were trying to be kind.

I'm not sure what to think about the placement of the big money in Punch-A-Bunch at in Hole 14. It's such a random spot that it makes me think that it was trying to be hidden.

As a host, this is your moment to do something great. You have amazing information to share that neither the audience or contestant knows. While Bob is the obvious comparison there are many ways to play this - and the only failure is the lack of emotion. Drew has limited options because he gets so excited that he restricts himself on what he can do. That's alright because he is so giddy that it comes from a place of true happiness.

I don't think I'll ever forget Drew's "Holy Cow!" from a past playing.  I think I had to laugh since it's a complete 180 from how Bob would've handled it.  Too be fair, there's less time to stall, and a 2% chance at a win should be a shock.  It's more than 2 percent, at least most times but less than 10% I believe.

Imagine if someone won after giving up the second highest amount.

As for the showcases, while Amarava's bid is not Nicholas' issue or fault, I still feel awful when someone loses by overbidding, not by much, but loses to someone else that under bids by such a large margin.  No petitions for a consolation prize from me, but that's such a shame.  As Bob once said, "You weren't over by much, but it doesn't take much."  The losing difference was less than five percent of the winners difference.  To be fair, I initially thought that Nicholas may have thought that Amarava went over, but went with an amount that gives him a chance in case she didn't.  I don't know.

They both won several great prizes prior to the showcase, so that's good enough for me
