Dobkowitz Games
« on: April 02, 2024, 10:44:57 PM »
The show's Wiki page(s) makes note that our beloved Roger created 18 pricing games during his time at the wheel, though it only mentions Gas Money. What other games did he create?

Wow! It’s amazing how he sculpted so many elements of the show that still last to this day. Now I’m kinda bummed he didn’t find a way to rework Split Decision before the end of his tenure, but kudos to the guy for a lot of years of hard work and dedication.

And thank you ClockGameJohn also for your years of hard work and commitment here on the site!

IIRC he also was the one who gave the idea for the true/false portion of Five Price Tags.

We used to have a thread that went over who the creators were of all the games; has an official list ever been published on the site? That would be a fun addition to the FAQ.

Didn’t Rodger also introduce “The Special Deck” for Card Game?

Didn’t he increase “The Range Finder” in Range Game?

Please let me know if I’m wrong.

I apologize ahead of time if I am.

I second this, though I imagine part of the reason why this has never been done is because we don't have the creator for every pricing game and some are subject to dispute.

I mean, who officially gets credit for creating Switch? and 3 Strikes? I'm curious...
Roger Dobkowitz's Seven Commandments of The Price Is Right:
1. Tape and edit the show as if it were live.
2. Never tell the contestant what to do.
3. Size matters. (The bigger the prize, the better the prize and the bigger the reaction.)
4. All prizes are good.
5. Never do anything on the show that would embarrass a parent with a kid watching.
6. Never put on a prize that would make the show look cheap.
7. It’s the game, stupid! (It’s about the game.)

Just off-hand, Bob has mentioned on the air that Secret X was created by Fingers and Stack The Deck was created by Bart.

I've always been wondering who created which games and trying to remember who created them. Here's a small sample list from memory; some might be incorrect:

Paul Alter: One Wrøng Price
Bob Barker: 2 for the Price of 1, Triple Play, Bonkers, Coming or Going, and More or Less
Drew Carey: Rat Race
Rich Fields: Pay the Rent
Samantha "Sam" Governale: Check-Out
Kathy "Fingers" Greco: Secret "X" (as mentioned) Pick-a-Pair and Line em Up
Adam Sandler (producer): Gridlock!
Frank Wayne: Master Key
Phil Wayne Rossi: Trader Bob

Rich Fields: Pay the Rent

I think Adam Sandler (producer) was shouted out on-air as its creator. That’s through an admittedly fuzzy and flawed memory though.

Edit: the above thread links from brosa0 answers a lot of these. Thank you for that. I missed the one from 2011 in my search that has a lot of info

Didn’t Rodger also introduce “The Special Deck” for Card Game?

We think, but are not sure, that the earliest playings of Card established the range by drawing a card and multiplying its value by 100. Apparently there's a still photo of the first playing of Card out there, but I've never seen it.

Regarding Triple Play, I didn't think Bob actually created it, I thought he just wanted a game that involved the staggering visual of a car in all three doors and the game was created by the staff based on that idea

Rich Fields: Pay the Rent

Pay The Rent was definitely created by producer Adam Sandler, though I believe Mike Richards came up with the idea of the prize, IIRC.

Ah, you were correct. My memory was a bit fuzzy and wasn't sure who created Pay the Rent.

On the subject of Adam Sandler, he also created Double Cross. I'm certain he created another game from the past decade but don't know which one.

Gridlock was among his creations too, IIRC.
