Chinese Price is Right
« on: September 05, 2007, 09:51:59 PM »
I just got back from a business trip to China.  The day I arrived, what should be on TV at the hotel pool but the Chinese version of The Price is Right!  It was on CCTV2.  It has a slower pace than the US version.  The games that I caught were Ten Chances, Spelling Bee, and Pushover.  They had a crude Big Wheel, which takes forever to stop spinning, even with the weaker people spinning it.  The numbers on the Big Wheel are the same sequence as in the US.  No bonus spins are awarded.  The prizes are cheaper than on the US version.  For example, one item up for bid was a set of Tupperware-type dishes.  I didn't see any cars being offered, but I didn't catch the showcases.  Overall, if the American version is a perfect 10 out of 10, then the Chinese version would be about a 4.

Hi Ponch8, this is some interesting information, could you tell me what time and day it aired in the city / province you stayed in.

Check out the Golden Gallery's Price Around The World section for pictures I found months ago if you wish.

I was staying in Beijing.  It aired on Saturday at 4 PM.  I had a day off on a Tuesday and wanted to watch it again, but it wasn't on that day.

I can't really remember, because I was in such a state of ecstasy at seeing a foreign version of my favorite game show.  I do know that it did have the usual four contestants.

Now why don't I get that kind of thrill from a TV show.

I'm not sure.  I'm going back to China in a couple weeks, so maybe I'll see it again if I'm lucky.

I've just watched it!   It aired at 19:30 PM  China time.  (that's 11:30 GMT)

I liked 3 Strikes played with pool balls, with the cue ball being the strike  :)

I recorded the airing on Saturday, its bloody great, very professional.

Also I really really love the video wall instead of telling people to come on down its displays a photo of the chosen contestant, what  a great concept!

A bit off topic but i read somewhere that they are going to make a Chinese family feud.
