OBIT - Jack Narz
« on: October 15, 2008, 02:32:40 PM »
GSN just announced that Jack Narz passed away this morning at the age of 85.  He was Tom Kennedy's brother and a game show legend.

Too bad.  He was a legend and will be missed.

I'm not all that familiar with Jack's work, but I enjoyed watching Tom's TPIR and Body Language back in the mid-80s. My condolences go out to the Narz clan.

According to Steve Beverly's e-mail newsletter, Jack died due to complications from two massive strokes in the past two weeks and kidney failure.

This is truly depressing. He will be sorely missed.

He, among others, was an inspiration for me to become a broadcaster.  As a six or seven year old I would be the host as my family played the "Beat the Clock" home game.  These days there are times I catch myself saying or doing things in a Jack Narz way.  When I realize it, I smile to myself.  I look forward to the next time.

Thanks Jack.

I have heard and seen do his thing on either hosting a certain game show or being a guest in one. To hear this news of him passing is just a big blow. My condolences go out to his brother Tom Kennedy and the rest of his family as well. RIP Jack.

This actually reminds me of an interesting (and embarrassing) story.  I got in trouble with the Narz family almost 9 years ago after I posted false information from Randy Amasia (by way of Justin Lollie) that Jack Narz died.  It's a long story.  For years, I had hoped that Jack Narz would never die so that I wouldn't have to remind myself of this.

I also remember back in the early days of GSN when the network had a phone-in contest.  Viewers would call in to pick which one of Jack's three loud jackets they liked the best.  Jack even did the commercial for the contest.  At the end of the contest, Jack showed up live on "Club A.M." to model the winning jacket.  Jack had a great sense of humor when it came to his 1970s fashion sense.

Goodbye, Jack.  We'll miss you.  Tell your brother-in-law Bill Cullen that we said "hi".
Well, this week was supposed to be a return to normalcy, but that's clearly not allowed.  Since you feel there is no need for this week's FPG to continue, I feel there is no need to continue as an FPG host or a G-R.net member.  Since most people are so desperate to push me out of here, why delay it?  I would have preferred that everybody publicly admitted it rather than string me along for the last two days, but it is what it is.  I am hereby resigning as FPG host and moderator, effective immediately.  whammy007 is the new permanent host.  No R-rated rant or airing of grievances from me.  Just a polite "goodbye for good".

First time I saw Jack on TV was on Seven Keys (1961-64), and his demeanor complimented his deep, rich voice perfectly. Always liked him.

Wow...this sucks.  We've lost a lot of people this year...Tim Russert, George Carlin, Bernie Mac...and now, Jack Narz.

RIP, Jack.
