Title: PatrickRox80's The Price is Right: Seasons (1975) - END
Post by: PatrickRox80 on February 21, 2020, 12:45:17 PM
Get ready to expand to the fabulous 60-minute PatrickRox80 Price is Right!

As this episode is going to follow the full-hour format, I've adjusted the rules to accommodate the Showcase Showdown.
But enough about that. Here is this year's interview question:

The daytime version of the Price is Right expanded to an hour this year. Suppose the syndicated format with Dennis James was to do the same. How would you do the Showcase Showdown in this case? Would you keep the Big Wheel? Tweak it a bit? Come up with something entirely different for the three pricing game players for each half?

Sign-ups will close on Monday, February 24 at 7:00 PM EST. Good luck, everybody!

If it was me, I would keep the big wheel. But the payouts should be different. For example, for getting $1 in 1 or a combination of 2 spins resulting in $2,000 and a bonus spin. In the bonus spin if it stops on the on the 5¢ or the 15¢ that will mean $25,000 but if it stops on the $1 it would mean $250,000.

If I'm eligible, my idea is that the Wheel should have 20 envelopes like Wheel of Fortune's Bonus Round. (20 envelopes because the Wheel has 20 spaces). There is one of each value. The dollar envelope would be $1.00 instead of 100. Here is my breakout:

I'll play!

I'd keep the SS just as it was, but use the side-spinning Rainbow Wheel!

Would you keep the Big Wheel? Tweak it a bit? Come up with something entirely different for the three pricing game players for each half?

Instead of ripping off Wheel of Fortune, they rip off Sale of the Century.

The three contestants play a sort of Silent Auction on a grocery item. (This was in the days when GPs were 29-99 cents.)

The three players stand behind podiums a la Sale of the Century. Dennis James raises the price about 5 cents each time. Like an auction, a player can buzz after an amount is read to "bid" that amount. Dennis keeps raising the price higher and higher (eventually going higher in smaller increments once players become more reluctant to bid)

Game ends in one of two ways:

1) If Dennis can't get any of the players to bid any higher, he reveals the ARP. Closest without going over wins.
2) If two players have bids over the ARP, a buzzer immediately goes off and the game immediately ends. The player who did not go over wins.

Winner gets a $500 bonus. If they freeze on the exact prize, they win $1,000.

I would personally keep the Big Wheel, but like geniusinmath, I would change the payouts:
I would also use a modified version of the Big Wheel that is designed to look more like it belongs in a nighttime version of the show as opposed to the regular Big Wheel.

I would just simply mix up all of the numbers on the big wheel to make things interesting there! By the way I'm playing!

It’s the 70s, man.  We’ve gotta go far out with this new layout.  Screw the wheel, we need a wall with all 20 numbers up there arranged randomly, each illuminated by large, bright-red neon numbers.  We’ll dim the lights in the studio, and the numbers will light up at random (think Second Chance with a similar sound effect).  The contestant will hit a button to stop the board, and whichever number they land on is the number they get and so on... (rules from that point are exactly the same as they are with the normal SCSD format).

I would keep the rainbow wheel as well and spin as normal. Get a dollar win $1000 and bonus spin. Get a 100 again you get $10,000 any thing else will be multiple by 50. (It is the seventies). Let’s play.

I'd be down to join.

In regards to replacing the Showcase Showdown, I wouldn't want to. However, there is one cool alternative I might try. Right after each pricing game, have a price along with 3 other GPs rolled out. Then, starting with the 1st contestant getting on stage (4th in the second half of games), they pick which item matches the price. Whoever picks correctly goes to the showcases.

Each item can only be chosen once, so it's not much more fair than what's in place now, but at least there is some pricing involved.  :-)

GameShowFan9001, come on down!

geniusinmath, come on down!

And now, here is the star of The Price is Right, PatrickRox80!

*stands behind door number two as it opens, then walks out on stage, accepts mic from Janice and bows*

Welcome to The Hour-Long Price is Right! Thank you, all! It's so great to be here. By adding another 30 minutes to our time slot, we've also thrown in some new surprises that I'm sure you're all going to enjoy. We have more prizes to give away, some new games but we've kept the core of the show the same. First, as always, we have to start with an item up for bids. George?

George: An accordion!

The Weltmeister black Rubin piano accordion will make you the next hit at your polka party whether your preference is Weird Al or Frank Yankovic. Just don't get them confused. Lightweight yet versatile, it has 30 fully-functioning piano keys and 60 bass buttons.

That accordion will go to whoever comes the closest to its actual retail price without going over.

PayingTheRent, what do you bid?

Not sure how I ended up in the first spot when I was the first contestant called on down and should be in the last position... Guess I got a bit too excited when the generic polka music was piped in. 🥴😝

Whatever.

How would it be if the actual retail price was right in the middle? Neither of you have to worry because the price of that accordion is $1,499. gamesurf wins it!

Wasting no time coming out of Contestant's Row. gamesurf, I want you to stand right here. See this sign?

It can only mean one thing. You, my friend, are going to walk the Golden Road! There are four stops on this road. I'll go through each of them one by one. The first one's actually right here. We start small with this can of Goya tomato sauce.

That can could help you win this prize over yonder...

George: A set of cookware!

From Calphalon, this eleven-piece set of contemporary nonstick cookware is made of heavy-gauge aluminum, ensuring an even-heat system for durability. Cook healthier and smarter with less fat for a gourmet dish each time, and each pan and cover are dishwasher-safe.

Me: Should you win that, we get to walk further down the Golden Road. The next spot has this prize that could be all yours...

George: A display cabinet!

Handcrafted with a walnut finish and pecan veneers, the Rhapsody Bunching from the Hooker furniture company will add a touch of class to any room in the house. Proudly display all your favorite possessions or heirlooms with its five storage shelves, plus its touch-activated light will draw all the attention you need to strike up a conversation.

Me: And I've been waiting for this part. You can see why. I want you to win that so you can continue on down to the end of the Golden Road. Of course, the prize at the end of the Golden Road is wonderful. It is incredible. And boy is it expensive. gamesurf, the prize at the end of this show's Golden Road is worth more than...

SEVENTY-SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS!

George, don't keep us waiting any longer!

George: You got it, Patrick. Behind those doors and underneath that rainbow... a Range Rover!

A brand new 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport HSE! Be in control of the most dynamic Range Rover, designed to command attention no matter where you take it. It comes with a 3.0-Liter Diesel 254-horsepower engine, Sirius XM Satellite Radio, a 10-inch touch screen with navigation system, a Wi-Fi hotspot, parking assist and a blind-spot monitor.

Let's get you to that Range Rover, gamesurf. This tomato sauce right here costs 59¢.

Follow me if you please. Right this way. I'm going to have you stop on this mark right here. Wait, wrong show. We're here at the end of the first leg. There are three numbers in the price of the cookware...

Those are the last two digits. What you have to do is find the first number in its price. We've narrowed it down to the numbers from the tomato sauce. Do you believe the price of the cookware starts with 5 or 9?

I'll cross my fingers and say 5.

You say it's five. I'm going to rest my hand on this tab, and we all hope to see that the five is the first number. Ready, and...

*bell sequence*

You got it! And someone in the peanut gallery doubted you. Just know that you have a set of cookware and that audience member doesn't. It also means I get to lead you further down the Golden Road. We'll come to a stop at the cabinet. This prize has four digits in its price.

You need to find the second number. It comes from the price of the cookware you figured out earlier. Is that cabinet $4,502, $4,302 or $4,002, gamesurf?
Title: Re: PatrickRox80's The Price is Right: Seasons (1975) - IUFB1
Post by: gamesurf on February 26, 2020, 01:35:53 AM
Huh, it's not 0. This setup was nice enough to leave two options.

5 was the number that was just picked, and there's that myth/psychological thing about not using the same number twice in a row, so if this is a nice setup, I should not pick 5.

But that would leave choices of 4/3/0/2 for the car, which would be an extremely tricky setup, which might not be characteristic of a setup that would be nice enough to leave a 0. So if this is a nice setup, I should not pick the number which would lead to more difficulty with the car, which would be 3.

But maybe this is intended to be a tricky setup; after all, a $930 prize would have made the second setup much easier because a $9/3 spread is easier than a $5/3 spread. So if this is a tricky setup, I should assume the second prize would be tricky as well, and therefore I should not pick 5.

But if this was intended to be a tricky setup, you would expect a player to know that the setup was intended to be tricky, so clearly I should not do the expected and pick the 3.

I guess I'll take the 3.

Oof! So sorry about that, it was the 5 again. Guess that choice seemed too obvious. We'll get to see you in the Showcase Showdown later on with the accordion and the cookware in tow.

George: I'll do that by telling 123123123 to come on down! You're the next contestant on The Price is Right!

Me: And boy did he ever! Our next segment continues with item being wheeled onto the set.

George: A new mountain bike!

There will be an inverse to that. Whatever you break, we repossess something of similar value and count that as your earnings.  :P Also, every pricing game on this show is technically new. That's the beauty of doing one show about each year.

I'll stay put for now because we have a lot of prizes to offer you, starting with what, George?

George: A new dining room group!

From Broyhill, this Midcentury dining set of walnus table and six chairs, two of which with a Brasilia design, will add a touch of 1960s class to your home. Each chair is padded with felt for extra comfort. Plus, this set of dinnerware.

From the Noritake collection, this Crestwood Platinum 38-piece dinnerware set, each porecelain trimmed. With place settings for up to six people, it will add sophistication to any meal you serve.

A great prize package worth $5,537!

Me: And that's not all. geniusinmath, I want you to pay close attention to these four prizes.

George: First, the Blackberry Key2, an advanced mobile phone with 6GB RAM/64GB ROM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor. It has a 4.5-inch touch screen display with glass protection and a built-in camera that takes HD pictures and video.

Second, enjoy all your favorite sweet treats in the comfort of your own home with this Nostalgia FDM1 soft-serve and frozen dessert machine. It makes ice cream, milkshakes and gelato in just minutes with the touch of a button.

And never get lost again with the Magellan TRX7 dual-mount GPS. This device features free lifetime map updates for life, highway lane assist and text to speech synthesis for unmatched navigation.

And to win those four prizes along with the dining room set, you need to be in a gambling mood...

See that board? It has five numbers for you and five numbers for the house. In a moment, I'm going to ask you to pick out two of the four smaller prizes. We'll take the numbers you get from its prices and form a poker hand. You'll then decide whether you want to keep the hand or pass it to the house. To win every prize George described, you need to have a better hand than the house.

With that in mind, start the Poker Game by picking two of the following four prizes.

$499! Using five of those numbers, you have...

A full house! Three fours and a pair of nines! Before we reveal the prices of the other two prizes, I'm going to give you a decision. You can keep your hand in which you can win if the house can't beat your full house. Or you can pass your hand if you think you can do better than the hand you have right now. What do you think, geniusinmath?

Gonna keep your hand. I for one can't blame you. The house is going to make its poker hand out of the Blackberry and the frozen treat machine. Antria, how much is the Blackberry?

$650. I think you have to feel good about that. Now, let's see that machine's price...

$999. That gives the house...

Three of a kind, and not much else. You're a winner!

*bell sequence, main theme*

Enjoy all five of those prizes, geniusinmath! We'll play our third game when we come back!

It's time to introduce another contestant. Who is it?

George: We continue with wpghi5! Come on down! You are the next contestant on The Price is Right!

Down to Contestant's Row you go. wpghi5, you'll open the bidding on this item.

A set of chairs! From Palecek, two bar-height chairs made from the highest quality bamboo. These hand-weaved chairs are ideal for sharing dinner, some drinks or a sunset with a loved one. It's a timeless design, and it's from Palecek.

This feels like a pretty cheap prize, but I'm not going to say $1 like everyone else would say.

Instead, I'm going to make what I believe will be the first ever ZERO dollar bid in HYO history, cause why not?

Going in order. wpghi5 bids $850...

123123123 says $600...

*ding*

PayingTheRent bids $700. That will buy a fair share of mocktails of piña coladas aren't your thing.

*ding*

Ordinarily, I would ask GameShowFan9001 to bid again, but we're so hell-bent on setting this show after 1975 that I'm going to give him the Drew Carey treatment.  :P $0 it is...

*ding*

Actual retail price of the chairs... *aside glance* Two thousand three-ninety.

wpghi5 is the winner!

*bell sequence*

Feels good to be out of the peanut gallery, ain't it? Right over to the big doors. I also have nice prizes to show you. Isn't that right, George?

George: Yes, it's an organ and a floor clock!

The Hammond SK1 88, an 88-Key professional digital organ for the musician in you. It's programmed for nine drawbars, and it also features a sound generator with acoustic or electric lifelike outputs along with a graphic equalizer. It comes with a stand, amplifier, matching case and pedals.

And for an abstract way to tell time, this Howard Miller grandfather clock is made of two Acacia hardwood slabs of differing heights, each with polished nickel-finished accents. Its modern white dial, applied black roman number XII and hour markers and split-disc pendulum also gives off a retro atmosphere.

Me: Both those prizes can be yours, wpghi5. Anitra is on her way with this price tag...

$3,695. If you can tell us which prize costs $3,695, you'll win both those prizes. Is it the organ or the clock?

This might just be the dumbest looking floor clock ever offered on these boards.  And yet, somehow, I’m inclined to believe it may well be the prize to choose.  If I ever become stupid rich some day, I sincerely hope I don’t make superfluous purchases like that. 😂

Well, if you win it, free kindling. All you need is an axe, but who's complaining?

wpghi5 goes against the grain and will pick the organ...

If that organ is worth $3,695, you win both prizes. Flip that tab, Janice!

You win!

Nicely done, wpghi5! Anitra, how much was that clock?

$2,750. I's say that's about 120 Duraflame logs. Enjoy those prizes!

We'll have our very first Showcase Showdown after this message for you!

Welcome back! I have three contestants on stage, and I have this big wheel right here. Before you ask, Justin Timberlake wasn't invited to pop the cork.

You know the rules but the sake of this being brand new I'll explain them anyway. You're looking to get as close as you can to one dollar without going over. If you get $1 on the nose in one spin or a combination of two, you win $1,000 and a bonus spin.

Spin either of the two green sections around the dollar on your bonus spin, and you win $10,000 more. Get that dollar, and we give you $25,000! Little known fact: around this time, Bill Cullen was giving these same amounts on the nighttime Pyramid.

Finally, of course, the contestant nearest to the dollar moves onto the Showcases at the end of the show.

gamesurf, spin the wheel!

Spinning Order:
1. gamesurf: $2,029
2. wpghi5: $8,835
3. geniusinmath: $9,399

(As mentioned in the rules, please give me two numbers 1-20, your minimum staying score and another number 1-20 in that order.)

*gamesurf spins*

gamesurf's taking his first spin. Here comes that dollar but it isn't going to stop in time. You will have...

Sixty cents. That's a nasty number, and it looks like you'll spin again.

*gamesurf spins again*

Okay, let's see what we will add to 60. Forty would be great, and it's making its way... No, not 80!

*mrrrrrrrrrrp*

gamesurf, $1.40 is way too much money. I'm sorry.

wpghi5, go ahead.

*wpghi5 spins*

wpghi5 already has an organ, a clock and some chairs. I'm sure he'd like to get to the Showcases. He might have a good chance with this spin...

75¢! Not too bad, and he's staying!

And now, I get to tell geniusinmath to spin the big wheel...

*geniusinmath spins*

80 or better will get you into the Showcases. I don't think you'll do it with one spin...

You're going to have to spin again with 60 to build on.

*geniusinmath spins again*

And there we go. What will we add to that sixty cents? Here comes 35, that will work if the wheel stops...

You did it, geniusinmath! That's 95¢ and it gets you into the Showcases!

We'll see you later after we play a few more pricing games. #4 is coming up after this!

It's that time again, George! Who's our next player?

George: The name is Plinkoman! Come on down! You're the next contestant on The Price is Right!

Me: Plinkoman's made his way downstage. He's raring to go as we show you our next item up for bids.

George: A hockey table!

Bring the excitement of hockey to your very own home with this Slapshot bubble hockey table. You and a friend will enjoy the fast-paced action of the real thing by controlling six players with a flick of the wrist, including the goalie. It also features digital displays for scoring and time and built-in speakers for gaming sounds and music.

Me: And I hope the one of you four will have as much fun with it as Anitra and Janice are. They don't seem to want to stop!

Plinkoman, bid on that.

Wait a second: I thought those green sections did not exist until 1978, so you're at least three years too early. Also, back in '75, as long as you kept hitting the dollar, you would win $1,000 (in both regular and bonus spins). But I digress; the show must go on.

I won't do the same with the actual retail price, though. It's $1,999.

Which means GameShowFan9001 gets to come up on stage!

*bell sequence*

Right this way. That's just fine. Now, what I was going to say was we made history: PayingTheRent made our ever first four-digit bid on a full-hour show! I didn't think it would happen even with four items up for bids.

I want two cameras on two things: one on your reaction and the other on this!

George: A new car!

A brand new Toyota Yaris LE: a functional and fun to run sedan with everything you need to drive in style. It comes with standard features including a 1.5-Liter four-cylinder engine, six-speed automatic transmission, pre-collission detector, a seven-inch touch-screen multimedia system and push-button ignition.

Me: We couldn't give away that Range Rover, but maybe you can win that Yaris, GameShowFan9001. Here's how...

We have nine pairs of numbers on the Money Game board. One has the first two digits, another has the last two digits and the rest have dollar signs. I'll give you as many chances as necessary to complete the car, but if you find four dollar signs, you only win the total in dollars. I'll help you out by plucking this card hiding the middle number...

It's one. With that in mind, what's your first choice, GameShowFan9001?

$35 in cash. I'll put that over here on the top left...

65 is up next. Do we see either half of the car?

*ding*

No, just more money.

Neither side of the car just yet but you have picked up a C-note. Let's see your luck will change with 90. I'll place my hand here and lift...

*bell sequence*

There's the back half of the car!

123123123, you are the winner! Follow me up to the turntable; it's a few sets of steps to the stage and up here. You were almost spot on with that bid, and for that I'd like to give you this!

George: A pinball machine!

From Stern, the Game of Thrones Pro pinball machine modeled after the hit television series. It operates on coin or free play as you experience all the thrill, chills and spills of medieval times in a modern arcade setting. It's a great prize worth $6,499!

Me: And I'm prepared for that to happen. You need to hope lady luck is on your side for the Shell Game.

Underneath one of these shells is a ball. Your goal is to tell me which shell has the ball. It's not going to be so easy because I'm mixing them here right in front of you. I'll give you the chance to win four chips to place beside these four shells. If you win all four chips, I'll give you the cash bonus of that pinball machine! Not bad, huh? George, tell us about this first item.

George: Whether it's for the laundromat or a bus fare, the Advantus MCG10 Coin Changer dispenses pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters with just the flip of a lever.

Janice is holding a price tag for that coin changer...

You say higher. Janice will flip that card, and you are...

*buzzer*

Wrong. So no cash equivalent, and now you're playing for just the pinball machine. You still can get as many as three chips depending on what happens with prize number two. George?

George: Never be in the dark again with the Krieger 1150-watt high voltage transformer. It converts to any voltage worldwide, and it works with any electronic device or household appliance.

123123123, do you think it's higher or lower than $125?

That's fine, I still like pinball.  :-)  Let's try this again.

It looks so powerful, I have to go with higher.

Calling higher on all four prizes. Will it work for you in this case? The correct price is...

*buzzer*

Lower than that. Well, you have a 50/50 shot of winning the pinball machine. Let's start all the way on the audience's right. I'll lift this shell...

*buzzer*

No ball there. How about we go to the other end? Shell number one; you marked that...

Still no ball. I think we should take a glass-is-half-full approach. If the ball is underneath this shell you marked right here, you're a winner.

One more name to call, George. Who is it?

George: My next invitation is for gameshowfandanny! Come on down! You're the next contestant on The Price is Right!

Me: Right over in that blue spot, gameshowfandanny. This is your one chance to get on stage. You do so with this final item up for bids.

George: A rowing machine.

From ProForm, the 440R Rower will give you all the exercise you need from a rowing machine without having to get wet. It includes eight levels of resistance, an LCD monitor that measures your heart rate, distance and calories burned, plus it folds into a low pulley station for a different spin on an upper body workout.

Me: And in case you're wondering how Janice and Anitra still look good after all these years, that rower is one of those reasons.

Bid on that, gameshowfandanny.

JayC is the winner! You get to come on up. I'll stop you right at the top of those steps, the reason being that we're going to play our final pricing game right here. That will happen after we open those doors...

George: It's a gazebo!

Furnished by Westview, the Solarus red cedar wood spa gazebo measures eleven feet long and thirteen feet wide, so it's designed to accommodate a medium-sized spa in a modest setting. It will give you your own private escape in your very own backyard while protecting you from snow, wind or rain.

Me: And we've kind of zeroed in on a price range for you, JayC.

That's essentially why this pricing game is called Range Game. You have $150 range-finder to play with from $9,300 to $9,900. In a moment, that finder will move slowly up the scale. When you think the price is in that red window, hit the stop button. We'll light up the price, and if it's in the range-finder, you win the prize. Please remember that once you stop the range-finder, we can't start it again until Search for Tomorrow makes its return. Good luck!

(In other words, please give a $150 price window from $9,300 to $9,900.)

One is a 1200 Custom with attitude pushed to the edge, including a 1200cc Evolution engine, a closed-loop chrome dual exhaust system and to stand out, black-laced steel wheels. The other is a Street Rod, featuring a High Output Revolution 64-horsepower engine coupled with a dual throttle body, making you feel like the king of the city.

This showcase filled with ways to get into gear can be yours if The Price is Right!

The bed sounds like ~$2,000 to $3,000, possibly a little bit more, and I believe the car starts at ~$26,500 without options, so you're looking at roughly $28,500 to $29,500 plus the trip to San Francisco.  Hopefully.
