I'm still stunned how straightforward that Gas was. That's exactly how it should be set up, of course (or a bit harder), but I'm sure that wasn't the intention.

Lineup was OK-ish. Race she priced pretty well and almost won, but mixing up TV & crap I can definitely see, and then it fell apart quickly. Can't really make pricing mistakes when you're slow.
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

I have a concern with this show that I'll elaborate on at the end, but, first...

Cliff Hangers - pretty by the numbers, but, a win is a win.

Cover Up - no... just no. It was funny with those pictures of Drew on the last playing, but, those symbols ruined the joke. PLus, Drew didn't even know that % was a percent sign! Just put the phony numbers back. Painful loss, otherwise, though... he employed the Cover-Up-Strategy (whether inadvertently or not) and it looked pretty clear that is the last number would have been the 1. Too bad.

Flip Flop - excitable contestant, but, I have more to say about this at the end...

Race Game - what was going on with that reveal of the prizes? Where were the price stands during the prize copy? That was just weird. They've gone 30 years+ with having the Race Game jukebox in full view of the camera before the prizes are revealed and now all of a sudden they have to conceal what game they're playing? Her playing of the game itself was pretty dismal. She knew she had two right, made a change and found she had one right... why wouldn't she change it back to what she knew was at least two right and go from there? And now the 3D TV is LESS than $3,000?

Bullseye - a good contestant and a solid playing.

Gas Money - I have a feeling they didn't want this one played all the way out, so, nice to see her take them for the car and the $10,000 as well. As soon as I saw those prices, I figured they were trying to throw her off and hoped she thought the car was more expensive than it really way.

Showcases - yep, another two prize showcase... maybe this is how Mike is combating the end of season overbudget... just offering two prize showcases every day for the rest of the season.

Now, what I was going to say was I believe Drew was highly unprofessional during the first half of the show... he broke one of the highest "commandments" of The Price is Right - that being, never humiliate a contestant. He did it to Pamela, Chelsea and Rudolph. First with Pamela, harping on her about her retired profession. It's a job, she did it for enough years to retire from it, and everyone needs to work. Drew made her feel bad about her job for the sake of a cheap laugh because he doesn't know any other way to interact with a contestant beyond "Where are you from and what do you do?" Then later, in the third one-bid, he started in on Chelsea. Bidding a dollar more in Contestant's Row is a part of the show and the way he harped on and on about how Chelsea did it to Rudolph was just terrible. It was so bad, I actually said outloud "Shut up, Drew." When she was up on stage with him at the turntable and she was apologizing over and over again, it was just a mess, to the point that even Drew was apologizing for making her feel bad. A contestant should never have to say "I'm sorry" about their choices in the games and Drew should have never put her in that position for the sake of a cheap laugh. I thought about changing the channel at that point as he continued to laugh himself silly through the explanation of Flip Flop. Drew took a moment of victory from her and robbed her of it by making her feel bad on national television. He wouldn't let Rudolph alone either with the "Rudolph can't join in the reindeer games" remark (which would have been funny by itself, but, he'd already screwed the pooch by his earlier comments) This should not be happening, period.

Oh yeah, I forgot Cover with the show actually ending so well. I can't wait for that to get run into the ground in S42.

EDIT: I don't think Cliff contestant was a big deal at all, Kyle, but I can see your point on Flip contestant. I think Drew was just bored, as the first half was pretty standard budget mode. I will agree that it is due to Drew's limited nature, although spending 30 seconds on a standard OB was random.

Why did Sheryll pass the first showcase?  I know this isn't the first time something like that has happened, but I just don't get it at all.  She really wanted the sailboat, but she passed it because... her daughter thought she should pass it?  Of all the things to ask for advice in the audience, asking whether or not you should pass a showcase that you really, really want to keep just seems so bizarre.

I didn't have a problem with the Drew faces on Cover's earlier playing, but the symbols do work better. If they intend to keep doing it, which it seems they are, using Goodson-Todman asterisks would be a good compromise.

Kyle, I disagree a bit with your assessment of Drew today. I agree that today wasn't his best hosting job ever, but I thought OB3 was a typical "Drew" joke to make, and the tone of voice he chose to say it in made it obvious he was joking. Yes, Chelsea was apologetic, and I've seen many other super apologetic contestants since they got miked, and hyperness tends to amplify that too. I don't think she was made to feel even worse by what Drew did. And if anything, I think it made it more exciting later in the show when Rudolph did win, as the entire audience seemed to be pulling for him. So while it wasn't Drew's best moment ever, something good came out of it and I don't think Chelsea's moment on national television was "ruined" by any means.

The random symbols of Cover Up and incompetent directing on Race Game (seriously - there is no need to hide it at all, what is the point?) continue to majorly irritate me, but this ended up being a decent show. The long lineup with a surprise Bullseye 5th helped, and so did the Gas Money win. I agree that today is exactly how Gas Money should be set up ALL THE TIME. It wasn't easy by any means, and every price ended in 5/0 so there were no obvious throwaways, but the price not being an extreme strangely makes the game more watchable. In June, you can even get away with having it be quite a bit harder than it was today and still have it be fair - I'm not sure what they were thinking with this setup. But I'll take the exciting win, and the chance to see a scenario we've never seen before - a 9k bailout option.

Not sure what they were thinking on the showcases either. That 2nd showcase was VERY likely to be overed, and you throw a $15,000 Alaskan cruise in the other that ensures it will never ever be overed. Should have thought that one through more, but again, we'll take it.

Timings:
Cliff Hangers (4.5) - 4:36
Cover Up (5) - 5:21
Flip Flop (3.5) - 3:34
Race Game (5) - 4:50
Bullseye (5) - 4:17
Gas Money (5.5) - 5:17
Total (28.5): 27:55

Anyone hoping for something acceptable with Cover is delusional. The point to them is to keep having different nonsense every time.

Yes, they are jokes, but they shouldn't have been made at the contestants' expense. If Drew had said something quickly like "Oh, Chelsea is Rudolph's new best friend" or something like that after she one-upped him, that would have been funny too and harmless, but, he kept on and on about it to the point that she became embarrassed about her bid. There's where the problem lies.

C-H: Nicely played, as usual.

Cu: Ronnie took a shot at it, but it just didn't happen.

F-F: It was a toss-up between the $7K+ options, but Chelsea chose wrong.

Race: Lisa fell apart starting midway.

Bullseye: Solid win.

GM: At long last, a car win in this PG this season!

Showcases: Sheryll should've kept the first Showcase- had she done so, she would've won almost $63K in cash & prizes.

We've had some good shows this week, that's for sure.

Why?  There's no joke with just using the asterisks, and if there's no joke, what would be the point?

I mean, yes, I'd prefer they go back to the fake numbers, which was kinda' the point of the game--covering up the wrong price with the right price, and all--but if they're not going to do that, not even trying to make a joke out of it does not make it better.

I thought they were looking for something to use on a permanent basis. Naive on my part, I suppose.

If it is intended as a joke, and it's going to change with each playing, I guess that's what they're going to do. It won't bother me.

I still have no qualms with the Cover Up symbols.  If anything, it makes the game have just a little more character than it did before without affecting any of the gameplay.

That, and it has potential.

Nice wins on Cliff Hangers & Bullseye & great to see a win on Gas Money!  Overall, a good show, IMHO.

But I'll take the exciting win, and the chance to see a scenario we've never seen before - a 9k bailout option.
There actually was a playing before this one where there was a $9,000 bailout option - Gas Money's premiere on the season 37 premiere.
