THE BAD NEWS:

Card Game: Trevor sure did lowballed on the Beetle.

Swap Meet: TVs are getting to be too much of a wildcard thus far............Tough break for Gina.

Pathfinder: Terrible setup............No way that was meant to be won. I feel really bad for John.

THE GOOD NEWS:

Squeeze Play: Good win by Julie! I would've screwed up with $8857.

Grand Game: Fantastic playing and win by Liese! But $32.99 for MegaRed supplement?!!!! For crying out loud!

Switch?: A cakewalk setup and win for Jonathan! And a car was finally given away!

THE BOTTOM LINE:

Slighty above average show today with 3 wins. While no worries of a car washout, some of a car game washout have increased a little..........Hopefully, that will be abated soon. Plus, after the 1st IUFB description, Drew sure did treated Manuela as if this is her first week as a Price model or if he's treating her if she's a guest model or something. That sure was odd IMHO.

My two cents:

Squeeze Play: Good win. And she also won $1,000 on the Big Wheel, and her Showcase, including an Avenger!
Card Game: Tough break, lowballing on that VW Beetle.
Swap Meet: Tough break there, too.
Grand Game: What a win!
Switch: Good win. And he also won $1,000 on the Big Wheel!
Pathfinder: Tough break, regardless of the setup.

Showcases: Although the Showcase with the Dodge Avenger was awesome and won, I prefer the Showcase with the Chevrolet Spark EV (the only Chevrolet Spark I'm interested in), since I'm a nut for electric cars.

Overall: Getting better each day. 3/6, 2 $1K wins on the Big Wheel, and a car win in the Showcase.

Absolutely deplorable Pathfinder setup. I thought we were done with garbage like this. We were doing so well towards the end of last season, even after the Audi was won. (To clarify, making one aspect of the game hard to get a loss is fine. Having some hard SPs, the usual stacked 2nd digit choice, and an ugly path that ends in a fake 0/5 is plain overkill). And it's only the 2nd taping week! Not a good sign for the season. Card was pretty tough too. I try not to obsess too much about cars, but on premiere week of all things, it would be plain ridiculous to go 0/10 on giving them away in the pricing games. Can I buy one easy setup?

We've had the $32.99 MegaRed XL for a few seasons now. Why is everyone freaking out about this? (I'm referring to the Bullseye thread in TTIR.)

At least Swap Meet wasn't seventh.

With the exception of the $10,000 win in Grand Game, this was a fairly white bread episode.

My showcase bids:
Avenger--$32,707
Spark--$22,707
Well, this week was supposed to be a return to normalcy, but that's clearly not allowed.  Since you feel there is no need for this week's FPG to continue, I feel there is no need to continue as an FPG host or a G-R.net member.  Since most people are so desperate to push me out of here, why delay it?  I would have preferred that everybody publicly admitted it rather than string me along for the last two days, but it is what it is.  I am hereby resigning as FPG host and moderator, effective immediately.  whammy007 is the new permanent host.  No R-rated rant or airing of grievances from me.  Just a polite "goodbye for good".

At least Swap Meet wasn't seventh.

Sorry, but I don't get that. How can a game be seventh when there are only six games in a show?

And you know what's incredibly surprising (to me, at least)? We just went from a recap with 31 replies yesterday down to only 8 today, and we're only three shows into the new season!

Squeeze Play: Montreal is not my preference for a trip. The gameplay was pretty much a random guessing game to decide whether the tens digit was 5 or 8. Nice to start off the show with a win even if the prize wasn't my favorite.

Card Game: I absolutely would have lost this with a $2000 range. I tend to expect Volkswagens to be in $20000 to $21000 range so I'd have quit once I was over $19000. It's too the Volkswagen Beetle wasn't won but that wasn't exactly easy.

Swap Meet: Even though the designer handbags aren't my thing it was nice to see the Flexsteel recliner and the 60 inch Sharp TV offered because historically Swap Meet has tended to offer prizes I don't care for (I have stated on these boards before that I would be bummed out if I was a contestant and got stuck playing Swap Meet because of its tendency to offer undesirable prizes.) To have a nice TV and a nice recliner in Swap Meet was nice to see. It's unfortunate it wasn't won but pricing TVs is always tough given wild variations in TV prices.

Grand Game: The highlight of the day for sure. This was setup to be won. The MegaRed supplement was easily the most expensive item. And the potato salad, floor cleaner, and entree were clearly less than $8. So it was between the powder spray and the trash bags. I think most people would have won that.

Switch?: Even though the computer had a large screen and good specs it seemed that the sauna was the more expensive prize. Nice win of some nice prizes.

Pathfinder: Even if today's contestant would have gotten the thousands digit on his first try this was unlikely to be won. 3 is one of the most uncommon numbers for the price of a car to end in and with 0 being the other choice this would almost certainly have been lost had it come down to the final digit. The SPs I think were at a medium level of difficulty but it's unlikely anyone would have gotten all three. It's a shame that the Ford Focus wasn't won and that red of the Focus looked sharp on TV.

Showcases: Both showcase were good so as long as we didn't have a double overbid we were in good shape.

Lineup: Mixed. Much better second half than first half. Card Game is a favorite of mine but Swap Meet is one of our dullest games period and Squeeze Play becomes dull when it is a lead off hitter. I'd have flip flopped the slotting and played Card Game first and Squeeze Play second. Card Game makes a great lead off hitter and Squeeze Play slots much better second than first. The second half was much better. Grand Game and Pathfinder are two of the best games on the show and although Switch? is dull it is much more enjoyable when slotted in between two great games as was the case today. And Pathfinder is a great closer.

Overall: With a great Grand Game segment, three pricing game wins, a car showcase won, and a strong second half lineup this was a good show. It was also cool to have a perfect bid on the last contestants row round of the day as well.
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.

I know others have said it before but I've just got to mention it: a trip to Hollywood?? Isn't CBS Television City in... oh, right, it is, I was there myself. I'm just having a hard time figuring out the appeal in such a trip. Surely they could come up with something better.

I watched this episode yesterday after I got home from work, it is the first episode I've seen from season 43.  I have mixed thoughts about the set.  I'm glad they brought back the Barker-style doors.  On the other hand, there are WAY too many colors going on in and around the doors - lights everywhere (in the doors, around the border in two places); I also noticed yesterday that above the doors was not the standard grey, that there were shaded of red as well.  Way too busy, and it doesn't look good to me (I think this was during the SSD).  The backlighting that they have changed, which is particularly noticeable when Drew is near contestant's row, looks awful - it is way overdone and should be toned down - it makes everyone look shiny and unnatural.  The screen for the 3rd bidder in contestants row is almost unreadable between the bright yellow and the insane amount of backlighting.    They need to dial it back on all the changes; while I get changes are done from time to time, change for the sake of change is just crazy.

This episode was just there. Individual segments (Grand Game, the showcase showdowns) were fun to see, but when added with segments like Swap Meet (boring game) & Pathfinder (difficult set-up), it brought the energy down considerably for me compared to yesterday & Monday.

Grand Game: Fantastic playing and win by Liese! But $32.99 for MegaRed supplement?!!!! For crying out loud!

If I was playing Grand Game, I'd actually be hoping to see the Supplement because it'd make the game a little easier, knowing to avoid it at all costs... unless the target was set at $35.00 :D

I was more surprised that they did put something like that on a game where it would normally place $2.00, $3.00, $4.00, or $5.00 target prices. I know how much MegaRed costs, but I was not expecting that.
