Making MIDI music

I know there are a few keyboardists out there.  My question is this.  I want to use some patches/banks that aren't a part of GenMIDI.  My question is How do I do this without a) deleting the default Midi stuff and b) ruining my computer?

Any assistance would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
