I have mixed feelings about this episode... on the one hand, it's nice that we had a couple wins. I'm also very pleased that other than the recaps, we seem to have fairly normal showcases again. DiPirro is still great, and Drew seemed very on top of things, especially during Card Game (which was unfortunately spoiled a few days ago.) The lineup was also pretty decent, except for Pick a Number.

Now, on the other hand... there were still very difficult set-ups. On top of that, no big prizes today. Also, what the hell was with the music cues? Did anyone notice that they seemed to play the same cue (or cues that sounded extremely similar) about 4 times in a row? What was with that?

Overall... today was an improvement, definitely.

I find it ironic how the show tries to mix up the prizes and offer "cool" things like over-stuffed trips and impossible to price items to make the show less "predictable." Yet, the same things happen every single time a show airs.

When did General Mills cereals get so danged cheap?!  And when did Wite-Out pens get so expensive?  I mean, I haven't bought one in four years--they tend to last a good while--but mine was $1.99 back in 2005.

Basically, Hi Lo was probably not going to be won, what with the unrealistically cheap cereal being bought from a different place than the pen was, but it wasn't played well, anyway.  And 64 oz. or not, that peanut butter had to have been bought from the expensive pen place, and not the cheap cereal place.

Almost more than anything else Roger has done, I never understood Roger's aversion to Card Game sixth.  It really seems like exactly the kind of car game that he would've put in that slot sometimes.

Speaking of Card Game... couldn't really blame Shela for her confusion with the ace.  Drew didn't really explain it very well.  Shela was a lot of fun, regardless, and gave a nice unprompted run-to-the-car when she won!

Today's show  was much better than the season premiere, with a fairly good lineup with the obvious exception of Pick-a-Number. I wonder if this will be the last time we see a friendly setup in Secret X with two easy small prizes and the X in the middle row (the other X was basically all Aron needed). Seeing Card Game last was also a definite plus and Shela was a great contestant.

The showcases were also nice...Nicole's going to have a lot of fun at Oktoberfest, I presume.

If you're referring to the first half of the show, how the hell were Any Number and Secret X evil? Secret X was unbelievably simple. That mop has been on for years and $30 was screaming to be picked for the TPIR game. The only snag would be putting the X's in the wrong places. How's that evil?

Any Number's prices were no different than any other playings. It's the luck of guessing numbers if you don't know the prices of things. Erik just picked the wrong numbers.

If anything was evil in the games today, it was Pick A Number for that clothing package. No matter who gets a chance to play for designer clothing, no one is going to know how much all those items cost. I don't care if you buy Gucci, Louis Vitton, etc. all the time. That was a crap shoot. I still think if they're going to offer designer clothes, put them in games where pricing them doesn't matter. Having the clothes as the prize in Hi Lo would have made more sense.

CBS would have to order up some first, and even if that does come to pass, it's a separate order (and thus separate budget).

Didn't John say that some tapings recently were reserved for primetimers, which never quite happened?  I'd say that means it crossed someone's mind at least, even if they abandoned the idea before taping even happened.

We may see some primetimers yet, let's hope.

I thought the primetime shows were on a different budget than the daytime shows, though.

Secret X:  What a lucky win!  Who the heck told Aron to go with $25 for the mop!? :headbang:
Hi-Lo:  Evil setup!
Card Game:  Pretty nice win! :-)  Do they still have the $5,000 card in the special deck?  I haven't seen it picked since Drew took over as host.

Today's show was definitely better than yesterday's show, IMHO.  I hope tomorrow's is better yet.

Better today for sure, but some progress to be made still.

-Freezy: DC isn't usually that high. 8/10
-A#: Not too well played and then got stuck in the 3/4 area. 7/10
-X: He's been saved from being yelled at for missing the mop... 9/10
-SD1: 4/5
-H/L: The peanut butter looked like a high anyways, but 8.99?? 7/10
-Pa#: ...Just no. 8/10
-Cardy: Nice! 9/10
-SD2: 4/5
-SC1: This was an OK FRATs... 4/5
-SC2: Smart cars are okay, I guess. 4.5/5
-Results: Great bidding today, I knew immediately it had the potential to be very exciting. Easy DSW just missed... 9.5/10
-Drew: Cardy & SC2 reveals were lacking... 7/10

PGs: 48/60
SDs: 8/10
SCs: 18/20
Drew: 7/10

81 --> B-
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

Freeze Frame: Every time I see this game, it always seems to be lost, and the trend continues today.

Any Number: Why in the world would Drew get excited over Erik's winning $7.34???

Secret "X": Aron breaks the dry spell with the first Season 38 PG win that actually counts!

Hi-Lo: I knew that the peanut butter was more than the pen!

Pick-a-Number: Evil designer crap shoots down another victim.

Card Game: Great way to end the second show of Season 38, with a win!

Showcases: Shela went over by less than $800??? That has to hurt!

A little better outcome today, but we still have a long way to go...

* Freeze Frame: I think Washington D.C. trips are getting more expensive by the months. Oh well, I told her to stop there, and I lost too.

* Any Number: I would've ended up winning the mower. (and two cases of cue fail here)

* Secret "X": Luck paid out here, as this game is unpredictable with the hidden "X". (That mop screamed $10)

* Hi Lo: That peanut butter got me too, and it wasn't exactly a tough setup. Oh well, nice try. (another cue fail on the grocery cue. I could barely hear it)

* Pick-a-Number: For the first time since September 1993, Pick-a-Number was played on premiere week. I picked the 5 and paid dearly for my mistake. Darn this setup for being too evil! >.<

* Card Game: For the first time in a while, this time, December 3, 2003, Card Game was played sixth.  In addition, it's the very first time it was played last with the new Card Game set. That was an excellent win in my opinion. (and another cue fail on the car cue here. The Spelling Bee/Let 'em Roll car cue would've worked well here)

It was a good show, although the cue choices except the Line 'em Up prize cue was questionable.
