Grand Game: Yet again, I had to replay the intro to get that Feud sting going. Plus, the game looks a little brighter than before. But still, good ol' Autumn fell for the nut trap, whether it is all cashews or not.

Lucky Seven: Bold move by Estelle to pick 7 and nail it. But, another trap of picking 5 instead of the 9 for the last number. I said 8 as I employ the watch-and-reply.

One Bid 3: For a moment, I thought Rio was going to do an infamous bid...

Make Your Move: Well, I guess the classic cue's passe. For some odd personal reason, the classic cue now does not have the feel for this season. Rio did not use his own head for this play--something I don't personally like. If I used my own head, I would have picked 8405 41 695 and lose because I did not use the 0 hint.

Showcase Showdown 1: Even though Rio won the showdown, I still do not have a lot of confidence in his Showcase bid. I don't know, but there is something about him I am not too confident about, despite his shout-outs to his family and his watching Price since he was in diapers. Maybe he can prove me wrong.

So another person who worked on the show for 35 years on Price retires after working 55 years. Sounds familar.

Freeze Frame: Hey! Matthew peeked! I think. I would go the highest price for the piano, 9149, and win. When he picked the 7325, that would have been my second guess.

Any Number: I had my eyes centered on only the camping gear and guess what, they all lighted up!

One Bid 6: I had this hunch that Jeffrey will knock out Toniann for that pearlier bid.

Squeeze Play: That 0 pulling out better mean we ain't gonna have a skunked game. Yay! Drew kicking that 0 is icing.

Showcases: The first Showcase was okay, but it still had that "no car, I'm passing" result. For the second Showcase, I can understand the transtion George used, but from renting a Ferrari to a boat was just so odd/so out of place.

....

GTFOH!!

Wow. I don't know what to say about this episode. At least twice, I had some predictive thoughts about Rio, good and bad. For some, the opposite happened, like the stoner bid and him not getting the DSW. More thoughts came about the whole show, from the losses to Squeeze Play and the DSW and Marty and Sylvester, I cannot recall having so many thoughts about a particular episode recently. And now, I have mixed emotions that are not coming out of me because they are so mixed. So in short, with everything happening in this episode: GOOD SHOW.

$6.79 for cashews?  Just cashews?  No pecans or brazils with them?  For $6.79, I'd rather buy the generic brand of mixed nuts.

Historic Wrong® from Drew in Lucky $even.  Yes, Drew, contestants have picked (or tried to pick) zeroes in this game before.  There was even a time when zeroes actually appeared in the price.  Aside from that, I'm sure that most of us on this forum remember Wendy from the 2/29/08 MDS.  She tried to pick a zero for the last number of the car, but was rebuffed by Drew.  She went with a one instead, causing most of us in chat to scream "FORK!"  Then the last number was actually revealed to be a one and all hell broke loose in chat.

Marty! :-D

How the hell was Freeze Frame lost?  And why was Drew surprised at the piano's price?  It's a [French flag] baby grand piano!  They're supposed to be expensive, Drew!

Good... the $420 bid lost today.

So is that the first time that the number holder broke off the Squeeze Play prop?  Normally, that would be a bad omen, but it turned out that Squeeze Play was the only win of the show.

My showcase bids:
Russia--$21,107
:frbs: --$35,107 (I padded my bid on this SC... and still missed it by $8K)

If it hadn't been for Rio's lucky DSW, this would've been a crappy episode on which Marty chose to retire.
Well, this week was supposed to be a return to normalcy, but that's clearly not allowed.  Since you feel there is no need for this week's FPG to continue, I feel there is no need to continue as an FPG host or a G-R.net member.  Since most people are so desperate to push me out of here, why delay it?  I would have preferred that everybody publicly admitted it rather than string me along for the last two days, but it is what it is.  I am hereby resigning as FPG host and moderator, effective immediately.  whammy007 is the new permanent host.  No R-rated rant or airing of grievances from me.  Just a polite "goodbye for good".

Steve basically said everything I wanted to say.

Was anyone else yelling at the TV for Estelle to pick 7 as the last number? If I had $2 left on the last number, I'd have to pick 7. I've seen prices in Lucky $even that end in 9 way too many times to count--and if Mike did decide to be nice and make the last number a 5, I'd still be covered.

I'll echo Steve's comment here on Make Your Move. I thought that setup was extremely easy. In no way did $416 look right for the snowboard.

Drew was amazing today, and his comment about Squeeze Play breaking was one of--if not the most--genuinely funny things I've seen on the show in a long time. If Drew can host exactly like this every single day, he can sign a 20-year contract extension for all I care. His hosting was spot-on.

The Marty Wagner segment was extremely classy. He seemed truly touched at the audience's reaction to his retirement. Best wishes to you, Marty!

Finally, the :dsw: put a nice cap on this one.

Today was my birthday, and this was one heck of a show, in my opinion. I can look over 5 losses, a $420 bid, and a couple two-prize Showcases if there are as many positives as we saw today. I've already said it once, but it bears repeating: Drew did an excellent job. Coupled with the DSW, it's why I'm marking this show as a "Keep" on the DVR.

In Grand Game, the Steak Fries are $3.79 and Nail Polish is $4.59, or were when last on the show. The Brake Fluid and Skin So Soft haven't been on a recapped show.

The DSW and the farewell to Marty were definitely the highlights of this one.

While watching Grand Game, MYM, and Freeze Frame, I sounded a lot like Gilbert Gottfried on Hollywood Squares ("YOU FOOL!")  All three of those were perfectly winnable setups.  It just goes to show that you don't need impossible setups to force losses.  (I also would have won L7, for the record.)

As others have said, Drew was on top of things for most of the show.  My only disappointment was with his handling of the DSW, which I thought he could have shown a little more excitement for.

I'll also agree that the lineup seemed a little short and unremarkable.  A SP game in the second half would have really helped in that regard.

My Showcase Bids:
Russia: $23,432 ($594)
Monte Carlo/Boat: $32,123 ($10,913)

Apparently that Sea-Doo Challenger is in the $25-30K range.  I knew it would be higher than the Speedster, but I didn't count on it being nearly $10K higher.

And holy cripes, where is all the hatred for this episode coming from?!  I thought this was one of the most enjoyable episodes in a while simply because Drew gave a damn today.

You know, Steve, I didn't post any comments about today's show for exactly this reason. I thought the show was quite enjoyable and that Drew was good and borderline great today (minus the tosses to commercial and the end of Grand Game, where he obviously looked over at the unrevealed prices and had a look of "oh who cares" on his face), but then I came here, and nearly every comment was about what an awful show it was and how badly Drew performed, etc. I was so taken aback that I decided not to post and to rewatch parts of the show to see if maybe I just happened to be in a really good mood when I watched the show or something. I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who thought it was one of Drew's best post-season 36 shows.

Did anybody notice Drew's snide remark toward Barker after talking about Marty's retirement? I do not recall exactly what he said, but something like "Yeah, after 35 years, you just get tired of the show."

How in the world was that a snide comment? Yes, the man probably got tired (both Bob Barker and Marty), beecause he worked on the same show for 35 FREAKING years. You try holding the same job for 35 years, especially in the television/radio/entertainment industry, and not have days when you feel like not coming into work. I'll bet that even the almighty Roger Dobkowitz had days when he didn't want to come into work.

And we know by now that Drew respects Barker. If you need any further proof, I suggest you look back at the ending for the 7500th show

I knew those Grand Game peanuts were trouble. They just screamed "IT'S A TRAP!" to me. That said, anyone else have an idea what the other three <$5.50 things might be?

Jeffrey managed to save the show from this possibility, but has there ever been a time where a show was skunked but there was a DSW?

Nice to see a DSW, by the way; it does make an otherwise bland show much better.

Season 40 expected payouts so far for the games played today:
Grand Game: 2 playings, 1 win, average paid out per game: $5,005
Lucky $even: 3 playings, 0 wins, avg.: $0
Make Your Move: 2 playings, 0 wins, avg.: $0
Freeze Frame: 2 playings, 0 wins, avg.: $0
Any Number: 5 playings, 2 wins, avg.: $8,228.42
Squeeze Play: 5 playings, 1 win, avg.: $1781.80

I was thinking back to that today - I didn't have an Internet connection in the TV room at that time, so I can't say I had it in chat, but I somehow figured it was -91 in the $32,591 *insert car name here*.

While yes, Estelle should have said 7 to cover 5-9... who actually picks to a range anymore? Even if she did, I'm sure 3-7 would have sounded just as good as 5-9 to her.
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

Grand Game - I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of cashews this season.

Lucky $even - The middle numbers weren't all that bad, but that last one was a doozy!

Make Your Move - I totally called the trip to Colorado after I saw the snowboards.  That was one of the sloppier playings of MYM I've seen.

Squeeze Play Freeze Frame - Even without the lessons, $7325 seemed a bit too low.

Any Number - "The Piggy Bank will buy you a hamburger" says Drew.  That's one talented piggy bank!

Squeeze Play - Is there anything left on this game that hasn't broken?

SCs - The second SC was waaay more than I thought it would be.  Nice bidding by Rio.

I'll bet that even the almighty Roger Dobkowitz had days when he didn't want to come into work
First, I apologize -- it is likely that Drew's comment was not intended as snark, although it certainly seemed that way to me.

As for "coming into work", I do not think The Price is Right was ever really considered "work" -- at least, it should not have been and was not really so until Roger was kicked out. Further, Roger is not "almighty" but remains far above those currently in control.

The problem with Barker "feeling like not coming into work" is that he never wanted to do Price, begging Bud Grant (then-head of CBS) to give him Gambit or The Joker's Wild instead. I really do not think this ever changed (his longevity a case of loving money, the root of many evils {the love of it, not the item itself}), and I honestly believe his idiocy as EP was an act of revenge...although, as William Padron has pointed out, Barker did stupid crap even in the 1970s. Dorothy Jo's death only made things worse.

In a more honest world, I have no doubt that Barker would have been let go in the early or mid-1990s in an effort to save face (cut off the problem at its root, that sort of thing). Instead, the public got lies and excuses while as everyone bowed to Barker and gently pushed him toward the exit. Barker not wanting to come into work when said job was being a gigantic tool with zero consequence...well, it just does not fly (unless he was sick, in which case the taping was cancelled; since, you know, getting a sub-host would have been EEEEEVVVVIIIIILLLLL!).

If you wish to discuss this further, send me a PM. I do not wish to derail this topic any further.

The above is my opinion and mine alone.

To answer your questions: yes, I am a guy and yes, I have a face. (I also have the occasional spurt of weirdness.)
