« on: April 20, 2012, 04:10:41 PM »
The Price is Right
Episode 5935K
<<Recap to be posted later>>

As a reminder, next week is the audition week. I'll create the threads, and anyone wishing to post a recap may do so.  You do NOT have to emulate Kitch's style - do whatever style recap you feel most comfortable with. HTML posting will be enabled for all users in this forum over the weekend. If you're interested in the position, remember to submit at least 3 recaps over the course of the week.

I guess Triple Play was not used because there weren't enough appropriate cars to go around. But since 3X was set up fairly difficult anyways (I could really understand a 1 first digit guess when it's a frickin' regular Prius just with highest trim, with no special car cues or emphasis or anything, god damn), just do TP with Honda Fit and get a loss on the CR-Z there before a regular Prius (and, i dunno, a Ford Fusion Hybrid for TTM?), so it doesn't look so damn cheap and mess up the fragile Big 3 rotation (although I have to wait to see if TP did show up "last" week - if it did, then I would have much rather seen Pocket or something for a lesser Prius, then sub DP with a MP and rearrange the lineup. This felt like forcing in a luxury thing, except it was VERY borderline luxury, which only 3X can allow. Remember, 3X is a BIG 3 game). At least we got kinda close today to a full count.

As for the rest... yeah, whatever man. What a bummer to continue the failure from last week. (But I actually defended my FPG win, at least.)

2. Double Prices W
3. Grocery Game W
4. Switch L
5. Punch a punch L
6. That's too Much L
Well another 2 for 6 and this week ends in an 8 for 30. It seems like last year's earth day show was better as with the 2 before that.

No good came from today.................Then again, no good came from this week anyway. We're still reeling from last week's Plinko-Gate, and Mike has not let up since then. Today was bad luck all around, i.e. Juan. Juan not only lost to 3X, but went over on the wheel, too. Even TTM was a loss waiting to happen as well IMHO.

You think Mike would let his guard down, and at least try to throw a bone occasionally, but not this week..................Monday was a absolute catalyst for this week, and it was disaster after disaster after disaster. I hate to say I told you so, but.....................

I really doubt that next week will be better.

You know, 3 Strikes is 3 Strikes. Yeah, the Prius felt a little cheap, but it was so nice to see 3 Strikes on just 4 weeks off. I'll take some 30k cars in 3 Strikes if it means we can watch 3X get played a little more often. Those poor 30k-40k cars don't really have a home on TPIR anyways, except for the showcase, right now. And the contestant thinking 1 is the first digit on a PRIUS? That's his problem. I can understand 2, but 1? Come on now.

Aside from 3X, this show was honestly probably the most enjoyable of the week. Yeah, it was just as win-starved as the rest of the week, but between a nice lineup, a relatively alert Drew, and the fact it did feel like a "special" (with that car and the Volt in the showcase), it was enjoyable enough. Punch A Bunch was noticeably edited to shreds, but it's good to have a really aggressive lineup now and then even though it's clear this show ran over.

The one thing I was a bit skeptical about today was the showcases where airfare wasn't included in the trips. I know they're trying to be green and all, but no one's going to spend the gas money to go on those trips, and it just makes the show look cheap, so that's not a good idea (unless that's the point, in which case that's awful). While it was a bit of an overbearing theme, it's one day, and it's nice to see Drew make some 4/20 references too. :)

Timings:
3 Strikes (7) - 5:52
Double Prices (3) - 2:48
Grocery Game (5) - 5:47
Switch? (3.5) - 3:06
Punch A Bunch (5.5) - 5:07
That's Too Much (5) - 3:09
Total (29!): 24:49

The worst thing is that Stephanie in the blue spot never got on stage at all after being in contestant's row in the entire episode.

Great win on Grocery Game!  Nice win on Double Prices too.  Other than that, (blows raspberry), IMHO.

That was an awfully cheap car for 3 Strikes (considering it was 3 Strikes), but I do hope they can squeeze in one more playing this season. This playing got pretty close as Juan nearly replicated what happened last Earth Day, but lost out when it got to the 1-in-3 point.

I thought it was amusing how, after Stefanie bid a dollar under a contestant before, the next bid she said was not going to be a stupid bid. Good to see that these contestants can learn; unfortunately, she never did make it out of the Row.

Grocery Game was the highlight of today's show; that might have been an eco-friendly setup (and one of those times when themed grocery products can be justified), but it was definitely not very contestant-friendly. Still, I guess she knew that the erasers were going to be more expensive than one might expect and picked one of them right when she needed it.

SC2: Trips to Utah/Arizona without airfare? Odd. Not that it mattered, as Pierre, like many others before him, severely underpriced the Chevy Volt.

I honestly had to do a few double-takes in watching today's show.  Keep in mind that I always DVR the shows because of my day job.

First, Drew's joke during the open that..it's Earth Day (eve?  whatever) and that George drove half-way to work not only fell flat, it was a bit insulting.  It's like Drew was saying...tee hee...it's Earth Day...save the Earth....let's joke about how silly it would be for George to have to actually...you know...WALK someplace...

Check out George-Pierre's nametag from act 1 to act 2....

Eco-dry cleaning, Eco-maid service, and eco-groceries for a year....so, basically, the same crap you always offer, with hipster bags included?  Have you been offering NON-eco-friendly dry cleaning all this time?

I often don't pay attention so much to details during the replay, but I was literally fumbling for my remote when Drew reminded us after SC2 that it did NOT offer airfare.  Wow, just wow....so, if I won that prize, what is supposed to happen exactly?  Fly yourself to Sedona and Utah?  Sprout wings?  Out of spite only, I think I'd rent a Hummer.

Agreed - I think $32K is more of a One Away or Cover Up car price.  The Chevy Volt would have been a better choice there, or maybe a Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited ($44,200), with the Prius or a Camry Hybrid or Ford Fusion Hybrid in the Showcase.

If I can I will pop in a few recaps this coming week. After all, I think I may know a little bit about how they're done...

Well, at least they didn't play PtR like I thought they might've.

I was surprised to see 3X played again so soon; too bad the comeback didn't quite happen again.

Here we go again- the past 16 aired car games have been lost. But something tells me that streak's going to end on Monday or Tuesday.

I about died when 3 Strikes showed up.  Even by Roger standards, it wasn't due until next week.

What idiot decided that it was a good idea to not only offer trips that didn't have airfare, but to make a big deal out of the lack of airfare?  I get the point of ending the showcase with a car, but that doesn't do anything to change the fact that it looks freakin' cheap.  Seriously, this is literally how they did trip showcases in Season 1 when they didn't have any money.
