Game ShowOpoly
« on: December 28, 2007, 12:04:37 AM »
Ok, so there are a ton of Opoly type of games.. Dogopoly, Monopoly, etc. So I was thinking...man it would be cool if there was one based on game shows or even just price is right. If there was one for either Game Shows in general or Price is Right specifically, what would you like to see as the spaces, pawns to be used to walk the board, etc...?

I actually did a TPiRopoly set up probably a few years ago when I was in college. I pitched the idea here in it's early stages...I don't remember the responses I received. I really wanted to set it up but unfortunately I lost my files when I graduated due to the lovely surge of viruses that popped up in early 2005. Here was the basic set up:
The cheap properties were the two quickie games--1RP and DP
The expenseive props were GR and TP
All the railroads were the four cash games.
Chance and Community Chest became Showcases and IUFBs
Utilities were Contestant's Row and the Big Wheel
Playing tokens included a Plinko! chip, Dollar Sign, Car, Microphone
I can remember some of the Chance/CC cards: You tripped and fell coming on down. Pay doctor's fee
Bought TPiR souvernirs-Pay $50
Good news you got to play Grand Game! Bad news you only won $10

That was a fun project...I'd sure like to try it all again.

Awesome. Based on that, maybe you could remake the game. Whatever the most frequently played game is, it should be Illinois Ave. That is, if it's not already somewhere else.

I would buy and play TPiRopoly if it were to ever hit stores.  It sounds like a lot of fun.

People are tired of the f**kery and drama, but if we'd actually talk to each other sometimes instead of a whole bunch of private conversations with other people, it'd go a long way to perhaps fixing the problems most seem to see in the site.

At least it beats winning 2nd place in a beauty contest.

Every Special Edition Monolopy game I've ever seen, those spaces are always left untouched.  I'm planning on buying the James Bond edition sometime in the near future (to continue building my Bond collection), and those spaces look just like the traditional board.

Got a few suggestions for a Price is Right edition:

1. I would also like to see for player tokens: a golf ball, a Barker Dollar, a mini Hans, and a showcase podium in addition to the other four.  The traditional set comes with 8 tokens.  Never could figure out why SE boards only have 6.

2. Make the dice red to look like the ones from Dice Game (add some fuzz to them maybe :-P)

I'll post some more ideas when they come to mind!

I'm keeping track of these ideas as we speak, and I've added a few:

GO = Come on Down!

Mediterranean Ave = Double Prices

Baltic Ave = One Right Price

Reading RR = Grand Game

Oriental Ave = Pick A Number

Vermont Ave = Joker

Penn. RR = Punch A Bunch

B&O RR = It's In The Bag

Short Line = Plinko

Park Place = Triple Play

Boardwalk = Golden Road

Chance = The Big Wheel

Community Chest = Showcase

Let me see...Just Visiting was the audience
Jail was the dreaded OVER displayed on a Showcase Podium
I honestly don't remember what Go to Jail was...

The green properties (PA, NC, and Pacific) were car games as well..I believe they were 3 Strikes, Lucky $even, and One Away.

The yellow properties (Marvin, Ventor, Atlantic) were muti prize games...Credit Card, Danger Price, Master Key

The red properties (KY, IN, IL) were 2 prize games...Safe Crackers, 2 For 1,  Magic #

The orange (NY, St James, TN) were most played one prize games...Cliff Hangers, Secret X, Pick a Pair

The light purple (St Charles, States, VA) were "game" games..Range Game, Poker Game, Bonus Game

The light blue were actually grocery product games...Grocery Game, Check-out, (Back then it was Hit Me) but I guess Now or Then would be a suitable replacement. [Sorry, as much as we love PAN, its not going in my game... :)]

The Any Number piggy bank would be perfect for one of the "tax" squares (Income, Luxury).  I'm not sure about the other - maybe a VOID Check Game check?
So this is the "get off of my lawn" stage of my life.  I'm not impressed.

Why not "The First Four Breakfast Club" with a picture of Mimi on the space?

FREE PARKING: If you play "Monopoly" the way my family used to, you turn it into a jackpot space. We'd take all our penalties and deposit them into the pot. Land on "Free Parking", take the stash. So I'd include a little plastic clingy thing with a picture of the wheel that says "JACKPOT" or something like that to place on that spot.

(I know, I know...it's not supposed to be a reward space. You play the game your way, we play it ours! Everyone's got their variations.)
