The NHL Playoff race
« on: March 28, 2007, 12:47:12 AM »
If you need a little background, right now, in the Eastern Conference in the NHL, there are 6 teams that are battling to finish 6th, 7th or 8th, with about a week and a half left to the season.

In the West, it's less tight at the bottom. Only 9th place Colorado has a chance of improving to the 8th and final playoff spot.

A big night tonight. The Montreal Canadiens have won against the NY Rangers, and are moving to 7th place, tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning (who lost to the Florida Panthers), and only 1 measily point away from 6th place Rangers. All 3 teams have 5 games left to play.

Also, heels' own Carolina Hurricanes lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Combine that to NY Islanders' loss to the New Jersey Devils, there is not a 3 way ties between CAR, TOR and NYI, with 6 games each left to play.

Needless to say, this is as tight a race as I've seen in years !

I update it every night after all the games are done. Starting next week, though, I'll be updating it multiple times a night.

Good page, heels. I'll make sure I look at it often.

Anyone else find it interresting that Tampa Bay at 7th, but could easily finish 3rd, since they are 2 points away from Division leader Atlanta?

Well, the good news is that Toronto won 5-4 over the Pens in OT last night. The bad news is that all the teams in front of them won also, which makes tonight's game against the Rangers even more important.

Yes, especially my Habs, who are only 1 point ahead. Well, sorry if I sent bad vibes, but I hope you guys lose !! ;) No offense ... hehe

Oh, btw, what the heck was it that delayed the start of OT last night? I heard someone collapsed or something?

Yeah, a fan suffered a heart attack. That was the cause of the delay.

The Western Conference is Detroit's to lose.  They beat Columbus today 4-0, and their 3 remaining games are against Columbus and Chicago (twice).  Nashville still has to play Chicago, St. Louis and Colorado.  Detroit is 3 points ahead of the Preds and two on the Ducks for the 1 seed in the west.  The Ducks still have to face San Jose, Dallas & Columbus, and 2 of those games are on the road.

LETS GO RED WINGS!

Thrilling OT win for the Leafs tonight to stay in it. Unfortunately, Montreal won as well, keeping us one point out. Just gotta keep trying.

Well, I'm say I'm sorry, but ... that means the Habs have more chance, now !! ;)

And BTW, it's apparently the first time in the history of the NHL that both the Stanley Cup champions and finalists both don't make the playoff the following year!

I'll be rooting for Montreal in the East and Dallas in the West. Even though we're not in it, the playoffs should be fun. It'll be the first time I've really kept up with it.
