scariest game show music cue
« on: November 13, 2007, 11:36:54 PM »
Did any ever make you cringe in fright when you were younger?  I was always bit unnerved by the "puzzle starting up" humming seen in both the main and end games on Scrabble, which sounded ominous like you can't believe, particularly if it was the bonus road and you knew in your heart the clock would end up back at zero before the game ended (the equally alien sound effect used to open the door to the gameboard in the main game wasn't for the faint of heart either).

Well, if you're talking about game show bells and whistles, here's a few that scared me to death:

1.  The harsh losing horn from Now You See It '89 and Classic Concentration

2.  The old WoF "Category" chimes

3.  The old WoF "No Vowels" chime

4.  Any form of the NBC "Claxon" buzzer

5.  TPiR's first "MRRRRRRRP"

6.  Any PYL Whammy "musical interludes"...
I just wanted to drop you a note and thank you for your love, affection and loyalty to me, drew, the models and.... The Price is Right....thank you for being such a "Loyal Friend & True". -Rich Fields (in an e-mail sent to me on 3/17/2010)

I support The Price is Right...even if nobody I know likes Drew Carey.

If there's anything that would fit into this category for me, it would probably be the dragon in the Tic Tac Dough bonus round.  For some reason, I thought the TTD theme sounded really weird too.

For me, what's kind of scary is the losing cue to Blockbusters 1987.  It was just biting and kind of creepy, in my opinion.

This thread is almost as bad as the TPIR dreams thread. Wow.

Takes a lot of courage to admit something like this, so if you all can be this brave....

For me it was THE JOKER'S WILD JOKER JACKPOT win cue (known to some as "The Russian Circus").  It reminded me a little too much of a piece of crazy production music that seemed to be everywhere in the 1970's and 1980's from SESAME STREET to the final jungle scene in "The Bad Luck Eye of the Little Yellow god" episode of DANGER MOUSE (when DM tries to return the eye to the natives...again and agan).  I have since gotten to be OK with the JACKPOT cue, but I still hate that other piece!

I was afraid of the TTD dragon cue, too, as wel as its creepy theme (which has since grown on me as I've gotten older).  I was also afraid of the old "out of time" bell on WoF--think Chuck Woolery, early Pat Sajak era.

When I was young, i was afraid of two things that have since grown out of me. When the yodel man would fall off the cliff on cliffhangers and also the round over beeper on Jeopardy!

Speaking of Scrabble, what about the Stopper cue?  That one never bugged me, but that sounds like the type of thing that might frigthen small children...

The sounds that startled me:

The WoF original 'running out of time" bell
The Classic Concentartion bonus round time buzzer
The Family Feud buzzer

Don't know about actual music cues, but while we're talking SFX.....the "Scrabble" bonus round win sirens and "Classic Concentration" losing horn scared me when I was little. Now, I'd give big thanks to whoever can find either sound in clean format. :P

Anyone got the Joker's Jackpot win cue from the Joker's wild? I'd love to hear that!

TPIR Losing Horns (to this day I have to mute the TV when someones about to lose lol; basically any losing cue that has a downward groan)

Glad to see that I'm not the only one that cringes to certain game show cues.

Oh and also when I was younger (early-mid 90's) the daily double cue on jeopardy startled me too. It has since been changed so everythings good now lol.

Amen to the Family Feud buzzer--and the X graphic that accompanied it!!!!!!!!
